The number following ''310'' is key, as it states the type of lock the strike is compatible with:

Lock Type Designations
-2 = standard lock
-3 = mortise lock
-4 = rim device or vertical rod device
-6 = concealed vertical rod device

There are sometimes ending numbers, and when these appear they are just sub-sets of the middle number.
